From the Field: Jayapura, Papua

Words from Andri:

“This photo was shot in at the main Ship Port in Jayapura, the capital of Papua. About 15 minutes after I took this picture, I got kicked out by a police officer who also threatened me with physical force if I didn’t leave the premises because I didn’t have permission to photograph inside the port. I played dumb and acted as a tourist. Sometimes it’s the best way to avoid confrontation. Nevertheless, I went to the port because I wanted to capture an image that shows the rapid migrations of non-ethnic Papuans into Papua because these migrants now controls most of the commerce in the region.”
